Kathmandu – Maiti Nepal celebrated International Women’s Day. The celebration was held on Wednesday in the premises of the institution in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

 

The program was organized to honor and appreciate the contribution of women with the slogan ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ and ‘Inspire Inclusion’.

Nepal’s first woman Chief Minister Ashtalakshmi Shakya was present as the chief guest in the program. Along with Anuradha Koirala, the founder of Maiti Nepal, Prasanna Srivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy, also participated in the program.

Addressing the ceremony, Shakya highlighted the importance of the special relationship between India and Nepal and said that there is a need for a greater collective effort for the empowerment of women in Nepal.

Similarly, Koirala informed about the initiatives and major programs being done by Maiti Nepal. She also expressed her gratitude for the continuous support and assistance of the embassy.

Leaders of various political parties, representatives of social organizations, female students of Maiti Nepal and other distinguished women from various fields participated in the program.

Speaking at the event, Niyog Srivastava highlighted the importance of Deinari Day and praised the tireless efforts of Maiti Nepal for the welfare and prosperity of Nepalese women. Srivastava, Deputy Head of the Mission, mentioned that the Government of India honored Mrs. Koirala with the prestigious ‘Padma Shri’ award in 2017 and said that the Government of India also appreciated her efforts in this field.

Singer Menuka Paudel, who went to Indian Ideal, and Ratna Kumari Sunuwar, who passed class 12 at the age of 80, were honored in the program. . On this occasion, the Indian Embassy also gave books as a gift to the students of Maiti Nepal.
