Member in the then Constituent Assembly (CA) and Jhapa’s senior communist leader Dharma Prasad Ghimire has been found dead at Bagdogra of West Bengal, India. Area Police Office Kakarbhitta’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajendra Pokhrel confirmed that Ghimire’s lifeless body was retrieved by the Indian Police at Bagdogra along the Western Asian Highway, three kilometers away from the Bagdogra Police Office. He was one of the ‘Nakkhu jail breakers’. According to the police, his death was due to a strike from a vehicle which is yet to be identified. Ghimire had died on the spot, DSP Pokhrel said quoting the Indian Police. The 65-year-old Ghimire, a resident of Duhagadhi of Mechinagar-13 in Jhapa had been under medication for depression for the past eight years. He, three days ago, had left home for Charali market, for ‘shaving beard’, and had lost a contact with the family by all means. The body has been kept at the Bagdogra Medical College. His younger brother Narendra reached there and identified the body. Ghimire had been elected to the first Constituent Assembly from the Jhapa-1 constituency in the general election held in 2008, representing the then CPN (Maoist). He had joined the Communist movement in 2023 BS. Ghimire had served nine years in a prison following the Jhapa revolt. He was one of those breaking the Nakkhu jail in Kathmandu. He is survived by his spouse, one son and two daughters.
