Kathmandu– SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) President Chandi Raj Dhakal met with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, during his first official visit to Sri Lanka since assuming the presidency of the regional chamber.
Leading a high-level business delegation, Dhakal briefed the minister on SAARC CCI’s efforts to strengthen regional trade, investment, and economic cooperation among SAARC member states. He highlighted the Chamber’s role in promoting private sector collaboration and fostering stronger business ties across South Asia.
During the meeting, Dhakal urged Sri Lanka to support the convening of the long-awaited SAARC Summit, emphasizing that its revival would help restore regular SAARC activities, strengthen regional institutions, and accelerate economic integration among member countries.
Minister Herath welcomed Dhakal and commended SAARC CCI’s contribution to regional economic cooperation. He acknowledged the private sector’s vital role in bringing South Asian nations closer through trade and business partnerships.
The minister also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s willingness to explore ways to facilitate the SAARC Summit and promote greater dialogue, cooperation, and partnerships among member states.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rohitha Silva, President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and Senior Vice President of SAARC CCI, announced plans to jointly organize an International Trade Fair and Business Forum in Colombo this October. The event is expected to enhance business networking, trade promotion, and investment opportunities across South Asia.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing regional cooperation, expanding economic engagement, and strengthening collaboration among the business communities of South Asia.
