Woman gives birth to five babies at once

Nuwakot, A 28-year-old woman from Nuwakot district gave birth to five babies at once in Thapathali Maternity Hospital on Monday. Hospital’s Director Dr Sangita Kaushal Mishra said that Somika Tamang delivered the babies with a caesarean intervention.

Of the five, one was born dead while the health condition of four other baby girls and the new mom is normal. “Condition of mother and babies is good. Oxygen is not supplied to them. Now, the babies are kept in the neo-natal intensive care unit,” Mishra said. Mishra said that birth of five babies at a time is a rare case.

The four baby girls weigh 1.8 kgs, 800 grams, 1.9 kgs and 1.6 kgs. A team of doctors Dipti Shrestha, Namita Singden and Mukesh Kumar under the leadership of gynaecologist Dr Kritipal Subedi conducted the surgery of Tamang. RSS
