Call for amending act related to foreign employment

Concerned authorities have stressed the need for changing the foreign employment act and related laws with changing situation to manage and respect foreign employment. Speaking at a dialogue programme ‘Policy Dialogue: State and Business Accountability on Recruitment Abuses’ organised jointly today here by the Amnesty International Nepal and the Pravasi Nepali Coordination Committee (PNCC), Director for the Department of Foreign Employment Bhuvan Prasad Acharya stressed the need for amending the existing act related to foreign employment as it cannot address problems in the sector. Senior Superintendent of Police Rabindra Prasad Sharma told of a sad story of country’s youths being forced or lured into human trafficking under various pretexts. Indian PM Modi arrives in central capital

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is presently on a two-day State visit to Nepal arrived here this afternoon. He began his visit from Janakpur of Dhanusha, the district in Province 2. Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali welcomed the Indian Prime Minister at the VVIP bay of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). During his stay in Kathmandu, the Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to engage in high-level talks and will leave for Mustang on Saturday afternoon to pay homage to the Muktinath where he will perform special puja at the temple of Muktinath. HoR starts pre-budget discussions

Kathmandu, May 10 : The House of Representatives has started discussions on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the Fiscal Year 2018/19. Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada had presented a proposal in the meeting on Wednesday seeking discussions on the Bill. Taking part in the discussions, CPN (UML) vice chair Bhim Rawal said that the upcoming budget has been forwarded by realizing the political parties’ election manifesto and spirit of the constitution. He further welcomed the provision of progressive taxation system adding that the budget has an objective of mobilizing the foreign aid, developing the transport and energy development and its expansion. He further opined that the budget should clearly address the marginalized sectors. Leader Rawal stressed on modernizing the agriculture, reforming national security policy and promoting the nationalism. Similarly, Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr Minendra Rijal expected that the issues come up in the meeting would be included in the budget. He also said that the budget should focus on infrastructure development. CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Agni Sapkota said that the budget was positive in infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, promotion of good governance and uplifting the marginalized communities. Govt eliminates cartels

Transport Minister Raghubir Mahaseth on Monday announced the federal government’s success in abolishing cartels that controlled public transport, commercial lorries and tankers in Nepal. The announcement follows the agreement reached between the officials of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) and the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) representatives at their meeting held on Monday night.
