Four killed after houses were buried in landslide

Jajarkot– Four members of a family died after being buried in a landslide in Thanti bazaar in ward no. 3 of Bheri municipality this morning. Lal Bahadur Lohar and his wife and children were buried in the landside that washed away the house they were living on rent in the road leading to Pani Naula from Thanti bazaar. Lal Bahadur was rescued alive from the house owned by Tirtha Bohara. However, his wife, daughter and two sons died in the incident. A house belonging to Gopal Sunar was also buried in the incident and security persons are currently carrying out rescue work with the help of locals, according to Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar...

Incentive to mothers with daughters

Baitedi– More than two hundred mothers who gave birth to a daughter were honoured by the Dogadakedar rural municipality. In the previous fiscal year 2017/18, the rural municipality provided an incentive of Rs. 1,000 each to 212 new mothers with daughters, according to health coordinator Narendra Nath. The initiative began a year ago and the Rs. 1,000 incentive allowance is in addition to the Rs. 1,000 provided by the government for women giving birth at health centres. “We began this initiative with the objective of putting an end to discrimination between a son and a daughter,” Vice-chair of the rural municipality Parbati Karki said. Nepal to take part in qualifying for 2020 Olympics

Kathmandu– Nepal has been grouped together with India, Bangladesh and Myanmar in the qualifying games for the women’s football category in the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan. The first round of the Asian qualifying for Nepal will begin on coming November 8 with a game against India, according to calendar released on Saturday. Likewise, Nepal will face Myanmar on November 11 and Bangladesh on November 13. A total of 18 countries are taking part in the first phase of qualifying among the Asian countries. They have been divided into four groups of four and Nepal is in Group ‘C’. Of them 12 including the group winners and runners-up and the best two among the remaining go to the second round. NS mark to 25 foreign goods

Kathmandu– The Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology has granted Nepal Standard (NS) mark to 25 goods produced by foreign industries. In the previous fiscal year 2017/18, the Bureau awarded the NS mark to 25 goods produced by 20 Indian and Chinese industries. Of them, 13 are cement produced by eight industries, two composite cylinder, three LPG cylinder, three LPG valve, three iron bar and one LPG regulator, according to the Bureau sources. The Bureau began awarding NS symbols to goods produced by foreign countries since last year. “The number of foreign industries acquiring NS mark is increasing gradually,” said the Bureau Director General Biswababu...

Three houses buried in landslide

Jajarkot– Three houses were buried in a landslide that took place this morning below Thanti bazaar in ward no. 3 of Bheri municipality. Occupants of the houses on the road leading to Pani Naula from Thanti bazaar are suspected to have been buried in the incident. Police are currently carrying out rescue work with the help of locals. Meanwhile, Chair of Junichande rural municipality Krishna Bahadur KC has provided financial assistance to the families who lost their loved ones in mudslide. Two people were killed and three injured after a house was buried in a landslide at Garkhakot Chirka in ward no. 6 of the rural municipality. Chair KC donated Rs. 25,000 on his personal behalf to Harka Bahadur Budha who was injured in the incident, along with his two children. He also promised further financial support for their treatment, if needed to be taken outside the district. The district natural relief committee has already provided Rs. 216,000 to the landslide victim families.
