Kathmandu –  The police today made public a man arrested on Sunday in illegal possession with two kilograms ruby worth approximately Rs 160 million, amid a press meet. A team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbarmarga, acting on a tip off, held Dipak Sijapati, 48, of Lalitpur while supplying the valuable stone in the Kathmandu market. Sijapati has been charged with storing and supplying the precious stone illegally. Likewise, the police arrested two persons with over IRs 1.2 million including banned banknotes of IRs 500 and 1000 denomination. Kathmandu – Today’s meeting of House of Representatives has unanimously passed the proposal of sending the Bill regarding Public Security (third amendment)-2075 for clause-wise discussion at the concerned committee, for discussion. Earlier, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, on the behalf of the Home Minister, had presented the proposal. Similarly, the meeting also unanimously passed the proposal presented by Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokharel, of sending National Medical Education Bill-2075 to the concerned committee for clause-wise discussion. Likewise, the HoR passed the proposal of sending bills– Audit Bill-2075, and Insurance Bill-2075, presented by Law Minister Dhakal on the behalf of the Finance Minister, at the concerned committee for clause-wise discussion. Earlier, the meeting approved the some changes made in different thematic committees under the HoR presented by Speaker Mahara. Kathmandu – The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, has announced it would reject the decision made by the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee last Friday. Speaking at the start of the House of Representatives’ meeting today, Nepali Congress lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki charged that the Committee had decided to announce the justice proposed for appointment to the post of Chief Justice disqualified without any ground. “If Deepak Raj Joshi, who was proposed for the Chief Justice post, is unqualified for the post, then what about the status of the Prime Minister who recommended his name,” lawmaker Karki asked, referring to the Constitutional Council chaired by the Prime Minister that recommends names for appointment to the constitutional bodies and the Chief Justice. “The decision taken by the committee on the basis of prejudice and partiality, and without any basis and evidence, is wrong. We declare it illegal and we don’t approve of it,” he added. The NC lawmaker also stated that the PHSC’s latest decision shows that it does not respect the independence of the judiciary, which would pose a challenge to constitution’s implementation itself.
