The stars of the World Judo Tour were celebrated in style on the thrilling final day of the Zagreb Grand Prix, where our man of the day was Georgia’s Guram Tushishvili. He was on fire during his elimination bouts, winning all but one of his contests by ippon and displaying some great judo. In the final of the over 100 kilogram division, he faced Israel’s Or Sasson in a match many judo pundits think could be the final of the world championships in two months time. Having never fought before, the question of who would be strongest was answered emphatically with an incredible footsweep from Tushishvili, which flattened Sasson for ippon. On fire: Georgia’s Guram Tushishvili won his second Grand Prix gold medal this year with a mesmerising display as he won four of his five contests by ippon to add to his growing reputation and hopes of capturing his first world title in September. Kathmandu –  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokharel has expressed the US government’s support was crucial for the training and capacity enhancement of the Nepal Army cadres. In a meeting held between Deputy PM Pokharel and Deputy Commander of the US Army’s Indo-Pacific Command, Bryan Fenton at his office today, DPM Pokharel pointed out the need to further enhance Nepal-US military ties. On the occasion, Deputy Commander Fenton reaffirmed that the US Army had attached topmost priority to the Nepal for conducting the ‘State Partnership Programme’. Terming the joint drill between Nepal Army and American Army very effective, he commended the role of Nepal Army in peacekeeping efforts. South Korea will allow family members of Nepali workers in South Korea to pay a visit and meet the worker at least once during their employment tenure. The South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Young-sik said migrant Nepali workers would soon be able to meet with their family members as soon as South Korean government makes all official arrangements for this purpose. During the meeting with the Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista, Ambassador Youngsik said some families have already visited South Korea and returned to Nepal after meeting their family member working there. Ministry spokesperson Prakash Dahal said, Minister Bista had requested Ambassador Young-sik during their previous meeting to facilitate family member visit at least once during the migrant worker’s contract period so that Nepali workers wouldn’t feel stressed during their four year and 10 months long stay. Minister Bista said family visits would give workers a psychological relief from anxiety, loneliness and dispel thoughts of committing suicide. Over the years, the suicide rate of Nepali workers has been high in South Korea. The opportunity to meet with their family members is likely to bring such deaths down. YANGON  – Ko Shell had his teeth knocked out during torture sessions and spent 14 years in six jails, but as the 30th anniversary looms of the famed Myanmar pro-democracy uprising that led to his incarceration, he says those sacrifices are being forgotten. Sitting in a tea shop in downtown Yangon, he worries history is not being taught to the younger generation, a frustration mirroring wider disappointment with the government among many jailed for opposing the junta which ruled for four decades. “All the true stories were not shared with the public,” the 49-year-old said.Military regimes in Myanmar imprisoned nearly 10,000 people since the army first seized power in 1962, sending the country into decades of isolation. Most were jailed in the years after nationwide strikes on August 8, 1988, part of broader anti-junta demonstrations that catapulted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi into the spotlight. LAUDERHILL, United States – Bangladesh withstood a withering assault from Andre Russell to complete a series-clinching 19-run victory on the DLS Method over the West Indies in the rain-affected deciding final fixture of their three-match T20 International Series on Sunday. Russell smashed 47 off just 21 deliveries with six towering sixes and one four to keep the Caribbean side in with a chance of surpassing Bangladesh’s formidable total of 184 for five at the Central Broward Stadium in Florida. However his dismissal at the start of the 18th over, giving left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman his third wicket of the innings, effectively sealed the result in favour of Bangladesh.
