Nepali National Cricket team returns home

Kathmandu –  Nepali National Cricket Team, which played historical ODI cricket series against Netherlands, has returned home this morning. Talking to media persons at Tribhuvan International Airport, Captain Paras Khadka said that Nepal’s performance was good in the one-day series with Netherlands. He expressed the belief that they would perform very well in the Asia Cup as it was the upcoming mission of Nepali cricket team. ACC Asia Cup is taking place in Malaysia from August 27 to September 7. Nepali Cricket Team returned home today after playing T-20 tri-series in England and two matches of one-day series in the Netherlands. Military exercise involving top brass of 20 countries commences

Kathmandu – An exercise of high-ranking military officials from 20 countries has started here aimed at how the information flow could be systematised maintaining contact with multi-national armies while deploying in humanitarian rescue at times of disaster. The exercise is organised by the Nepalese Army with cooperation of the US Army’s Pacific Command. Theoretical and practical exercises would be conducted on making the contact and coordination in humanitarian works among the multi-national forces effective at times of disaster through the telecommunication signals operated by the armies of each country. Two hundred and seventy five soldiers up to the rank of Major General from various countries are participating in the exercise. It is believed that this kind of exercise would contribute a lot towards updating the telecommunications used by the armies in rendering the responsibility and humanitarian rescue works systematised during deployment in the incidents of big natural disasters such as the tsunami that struck Japan in 2005. The national armies of Nepal, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, France, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Maldives, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Togo, Vietnam, South Korea, Papua New Guinea and America are taking part in the 14-day-long exercise. 16 hurt in Parbat bus plunge

Parbat – At least 16 people were injured, six seriously, when a passenger bus slid off the road and fell some 30 meters at Betani of Modi Rural Municipality-6 in the district along the Pokhara-Baglung road today morning. Of the injured, six in serious condition have been referred to Pokhara-based Gandaki Zonal Hospital, while the remaining are receiving treatment at the district hospital, said Inspector Suraj Khatri. Tulasipur to be developed as first ‘Sports City’ of Nepal

Kathmandu – Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang, of Province no 5 is going to be developed as the first ‘Sport City’ of Nepal. The preliminary report released by a taskforce formed by the National Sports Council (NSC) said that it would be suitable to construct Sports City in Tulasipur. The taskforce formed under coordination of NSC Board member Binod Mainali around seven months ago drew the conclusion in this regard. Member of Mid-Western Regional Sports Committee, Bhim Oli, Sport experts—Nilendraraj Shrestha and Shivaraj Bhatta and Chairperson of District Sports Development Committee, Dang, Dilli Bahadur Dangi, were the members of the taskforce. The taskforce determined Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City for the Sports City due to various reasons including sufficient number of playground, positive thinking if locals towards sports, facility of transport service, construction of physical infrastructures for food and accommodation. Sports City plays a significant role in producing national and international level sportspersons thereby enhancing the national prestige, in the development amd construction of sports infrastructures fit for organising national and international sports competitions and in the promotion of sports industries and tourism. Woman attacked, whisked away

Ratnanagar, Chitwan – A tiger attacked and whisked away a woman while collecting fodder at a forest at Bharatpur Metropolitan City-25 in Chitwan today morning. Sushila Dumre was collecting fodder in local Raptidun Buffer Zone Community Forest along with her friends when the incident occurred. One who accompanied Dumre to the forest collapsed upon seeing Dumre being attacked by the animal, and is receiving treatment at a local health post, while another saved life by fleeing the attack, said local resident Bikas Pathak. Body parts of Dumre were found scattered in the forest, he said. Information officer at the Chitwan National Park Nurendra Aryal confirmed the tiger attack.
