Traffic resumes in Narayangadh-Muglin road

Chitwan–  Traffic along the Narayangadh-Muglin road has resumed. It had come to a halt since 10:25 pm last night due to landslide. The road was obstructed due to a landslide at Ghumaune in ward no. 29 of Bharatpur metropolis. Clearing of the debris of the landslide could not take place during the night and it was cleared this morning. The road was opened for traffic at 9:15 am, just a while ago, District Police Office, Chitwan said. The road is being continuously obstructed at the same location for the past few days. On Saturday, landslides at Ghumaune obstructed traffic for four hours. Government and DFID Extend UKaid Sakchyam : Leadership Transition Comes into Full Effect

August 3, Kathmandu – The Government of Nepal and Department for International Development (DFID) have completed formalities to extend the UKaid Sakchyam Access to Finance Programme (Sakchyam) until August, 2020. Sakchyam has been working alongside the Ministry of Finance, the Nepal Rastra Bank, Beema Samiti and the financial services industry on the modernization of payment systems; expansion in remote areas, and heralding exciting innovations in mobile financial services, alternate credit scoring; micro-insurance and value chain financing, among others. To date, Sakchyam has reached more than 350,000 beneficiaries through its various interventions, out of which 62% have been women. 113 new branches and 14 extension counters of banks and financial institutions have been established in remote locations to enable access to financial services for underserved/unbanked communities. Together, these branches and extension counters have opened more than 350,000 new accounts, mobilized NPR5.9 billion in deposits and disbursed NPR11.5 billion in loans. Sakchyam has also introduced innovation financial products – such as Weather Based Index Insurance and Sugarcane Invoice Discounting – benefitting over 3,000 farmers and the first women-led technology campaign (Digital Mahila) in the microfinance industry in Nepal. The programme has also helped establish more than 240 Branchless Banking (BLB) touchpoints and partnered with seven MFIs to introduce tablet banking in rural communities. Eurozone growth slows as trade tensions persist

BRUSSELS – Economic growth in the eurozone slowed in the second quarter, official data showed on Tuesday, feeding concerns that global trade tensions fuelled by Washington may be hurting Europe’s economy. Major economic institutions — including the European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund — have warned that growth in the eurozone risks taking a hit from the rising protectionism that stemmed from the “America First” policies of US President Donald Trump. The fresh data confirmed the fears with growth in the 19-country single currency bloc hitting 0.3 percent in the April to June period, below the 0.4 percent in the previous quarter, the EU’s Eurostat statistics agency said. On a year-to-year basis, economic growth in the eurozone reached 2.1 percent, which was far lower than the 2.5 percent in the previous quarter and also weaker than forecasts by analysts. “Trade uncertainty seems to have already had a significant effect on the Eurozone economy in the second quarter,” said Bert Colijn, Senior Economist at ING bank. “While the impact on real export growth has likely been small over the second quarter, the confidence factor has been more important,” he added.
