Radio Nepal goes global

Kathmandu –  Radio Nepal, the state broadcaster, has gone global with the launching of its mobile app today. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota launched the app that can be used in android version of mobile phone amidst a function held at the Radio Nepal in Singha Durbar. Addressing the function, Minister Banskota expressed the belief that Radio Nepal’s mobile app would prove helpful in making public the government’s official matters. “Radio Nepal should disseminate positive messages not negative ones. Misleading issues are short-lived. This institution represents the nation. Therefore, it should disseminate the right information of all and not only that of the government,” the Minister said. Radio Nepal’s executive director Suresh Kumar Karki said the mobile apps is mainly useful for those who have no access to Radio Nepal’s transmission services. But an access to internet service is necessary to use the apps where audio clips dating three years back are available. Presently, the Radio Nepal provides its services in 21 languages and there are demands for increasing languages from some provinces. Deputy executive director Ashok Baskota said the mobile apps was developed at a cost of Rs 500,000. Finance Minister claims government is on mission to end absolute poverty

Kathmandu – Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada has said a campaign would be started to end the absolute poverty by the coming three to four years. The Finance Minister said this while addressing to the inaugural programme of a workshop on micro finance organised by the Micro finance Association Nepal here today. He said the government would start the campaign to end this sort of poverty linking poverty with production. “We are linking poverty with production and skills. We will move ahead on the path of prosperity by ending the absolute poverty,” Finance Minister Khatiwada asserted. He called on the micro finance institutions to contribute towards ending poverty working together with the local levels, urging them to invest in small businesses to raise the living standard of the poor. He suggested the micro finance institutions to invest in entrepreneurship development and contribute to women empwerment. Stating that more than 70 per cent of the population of the country is poor and belong to small family, Finance Minister Khatiwada stressed on the need of channelling inbestment for raising their income level. Minister Gyawali meets Swaraj, extends condolence on Vajpayee’s demise

Kathmandu, Aug 17 (RSS): Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, today had a brief courtesy meeting with Minister of External Affairs of India, Ms Sushma Swaraj. The Minister reached India earlier today in course of attending the funeral rites of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away Thursday. Landslide and flood obstruct Manang road at three places

Manang – People traveling to various destinations have been facing problem as the vehicular movement remains obstructed due to flood and landslide at three places along the Manang road section for the past few days. The road section has been obstructed at Pisang of Nisyang rural municipality-1, Koto of Chame rural municipality and Timang stream. The flood in the Pisang stream has washed away the bridge. Ward Chairperson of Nisyang rural municipality-1, Bhujung Gurung, said that repair and maintenance of the bridge was underway after closing the vehicular movement. Similarly, vehicular movement has been halted at Koto of Chame rural municipality after road sank following the landslide. Blood money handed over to Foreign Minister

Kathmandu, Aug 16 (RSS): The blood money collected for the release of Dil Bahadur Gharti Magar has been handed over to the government. ‘Blood money collection campaign to save Dil Bahadur-2075’ main committee handed over Rs 6.7 million blood money, determined by a Saudi Arabian court, to Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Gyawali. Dil Bahadur of Rolpa is in a Saudi jail for the past two years. Coordinator of the Campaign Dipesh Puri, secretary Jeevan Roka Magar and wife of Dil Bahadur, Manika Budha, handed over the blood money to Foreign Minister Gyawali for Gharti Magar’s release. The Foreign Ministry, through the Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia, has started process to hand over the amount to the bodies concerned.
