Pasang Lhamu highway closed

Nuwakot – Traffic along the Nuwakot-Rasuwa way on the Pasang Lhamu highway has been obstructed after the flooded Gerkhu river washed away a section of the road in Trishuli-Betrawati section. Flood water from the river washed away the road on both the sides of the bridge over the river this morning, bringing traffic between Nuwakot and Rasuwa to a standstill since this morning, the District Police Office has said. Free social services at Chandragiri

Kathmandu – At a time when the local level governments have been criticized heavily for imposing unnecessary taxes on their citizens, the Chandragiri municipality has stood aloof from the crowd. It has made free the major recommendations concerning social services provided by the municipality. Accordingly, recommendations for citizenship certificate, birth registration, marriage registration, migration, registration of divorce case, death registration, recommendation for scholarship, pension, and benefits for the quake survivors are all provided without any charge. The social service tax (recommendation tariff) has been made free for this financial year too from all the 15 ward offices of the municipality, according to Mayor Ghanashyam Giri. Fifteen thousand transport employees jobless

Kathmandu – The Nepal Transport Workers Association has said that the decision of the government to dissolve transport associations and committee has laid off some 15,000 transport employees. The 15,000 employees were working for the 400 committees active across the country and they have all lost their job as result of the government’s decision, the Association Chair Dharma Raj Bhandari said. The meeting Saturday of the Association has also objected to the provision made in the new civil code, which has prescribed 10 years in prison to a driver who is responsible for accident leading to fatalities. The meeting decision to run a nationwide campaign for a new structure as per the statute amended by the last general assembly, expand organisation in new locations, enforce minimum wage in all transport workers, exert pressure for enforcement of the social security act and form thematic committee to assign responsibilities. Asian Games: Nepal competing in 9 games today

Kathmandu – Nepal is contesting in nine games today in the 18th Asian Games that kicked off in Indonesia on Saturday. Nepali athletes will be taking part in the Taekwando, Wrestling, Football, Badminton, Wushu, Lawn Tennis, Kabbadi, Shooting and Sepak Takraw, according to training director at the National Sports Council Rim Bahadur Ranabhat. Chair contributes salary to social work

Myagdi – Chairperson of a local government unit in Myagdi has invested his earnings as a people’s representative in social works. Chair of Raghuganga rural municipality Bhawa Bahadur Bhandari has set up a fund to deposit his remuneration and allows, to be spent on the education of the poor, underprivileged and orphan children. The fund was established after a decision taken by the meeting of the village executive. Accordingly, Bhandari’s earning of the past 13 months has already been deposited in the fund. “I will not be using my earnings as a people’s representative during my term, and using it to help the poor and orphan children in all the eight wards of the rural municipality,” Bhandari said.
