Nepal does not join any military alliance: DPM Pokharel

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel has clarified that Nepal won’t participate in any kind of military alliance. At a press meet organized by Nepal Press Organization here today, DPM Pokharel said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) pact to be given by USA to Nepal was in parliament and it would be decided analyzing every angle so that there would be no compromise on national interest and policy. The pact was brought in Nepal in advancing the infrastructure development and extension of power transmission during the time of the erstwhile government, Pokharel said. DPM Pokharel, also chair of Nepal Trust, said that the property belonging to the Trust would be utilized following the laws for the maximum benefit of Nepalis. On another note, DPM Pokharel said that the border disputes with India would be resolved through diplomatic channel and no single inch of the land could be compromised. To a query of a journalist on election of new speaker at the House of the Representatives (HoR), DPM Pokharel said that the agenda would be decided before January 12. Government serious in addressing problems seen in SEZ

The government is to take programme-based initiatives for resolving all types of problems seen in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This commitment from the government comes in response to the complaints by industrialists and business community that industry-friendly environment was not available at the Bhairahawa SEZ due to various problems, one of them being shortage of electricity supply. It may be noted here that Bhairahawa SEZ was established by the government with a goal of reducing trade deficit and for paving the way for economic prosperity. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta said the Ministry would form a committee for addressing all kinds of problems seen in SEZ and monitor the situation through this. According to him, the practical problems would be resolved on the spot. The Minister shared that works on some policy reforms was also on to that connection. Minister Bhatta was addressing a programme of interaction on the situation of Bhairahawa SEZ organized here today by Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) and Sammunati Foundation. Minister Nembang said from Taplejung : Project linked to prosperity in priority

Taplejung, Jan 8 (RSS): Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Basanta Kumar Nembang, has said the projects linked to national prosperity were given utmost priority. The Olangchunggola road linking north and south borders of the country, Tamor corridor and Madan Bhandari Highway are of strategic value, so they are of top priority. Following the inspection of Olangchunggola road project and the roadway to famous Pathibhara Temple here today, Minister Nembang added the projects with socio-economic significance must be accelerated. Minister Banskota highlights need of ‘golden era’ for journalism

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, has said the incumbent government caused no threat to freedom of the Press. In his address to a programme organised by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Bhaktapur on the occasion of its 23rd establishment day here today, the Government Spokesperson made it clear that he would resign from his post to come to the street if situation arises under which press freedom was squeezed. He claimed that media biasness was dominating as views intended for something were being presented differently in media. “The tendency of misinterpretation of opinions out of a biased mentality has become dominant in the media; I have a long experience of practicing journalism and I can realise aspirations of journalists, journalism be practiced by abiding by its code of ethics.” Stating the government had not dreamt of ‘prosperous Nepal, poor journalism’, the Minister called for bringing a golden era for journalism. “Onwards, commission journalism does not work, it should be professional and based on facts.” Communications and Information Technology Minister assured that the Media Council Bill would not be passed neglecting the journalists’ rights and interests.
