Kathmandu- The British Council has announced the South Asia TeachingEnglish Online Conference 2026, a free three-day virtual event that will bring together educators, researchers and teacher educators from across South Asia to discuss the future of English language teaching.
Scheduled to take place from July 23 to 25, the conference will explore how creativity, inclusion and emerging technologies can help prepare learners with the communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills needed in a rapidly changing world.
The event comes as education systems across South Asia seek innovative ways to balance curriculum demands with evolving learner needs. While English remains a key pathway to academic and professional success, the conference will focus on teaching approaches that go beyond language acquisition to foster creativity, learner agency and meaningful classroom participation.
The conference will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions and classroom case studies from leading educators representing Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Participants will explore practical strategies for creating more inclusive multilingual classrooms, strengthening student engagement and integrating artificial intelligence into teaching while maintaining a human-centred approach.
Speaking about the event, Rustom Mody, Country Director of the British Council Nepal, said creativity is essential for helping learners develop the communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills needed to succeed in today’s world. He added that the conference would provide educators with research-informed teaching strategies and practical classroom ideas that can be adapted to different learning environments.
The conference will also feature prominent speakers from across the region, including Shobha Bhattarai, Astha Kumari Chaudhary and Krishna R.C. from Nepal, alongside education experts from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The British Council has invited teachers, teacher educators and education professionals from across South Asia and beyond to participate in the conference free of charge through online registration.
