kathmandu- Nepali-origin Satish Chapagain has won the Democratic primary election for the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 7A, earning the party’s nomination for the upcoming general election.

With 99 percent of the votes counted following the June 23 primary election, Chapagain secured second place with 2,718 votes out of a total of 10,402 votes cast, finishing ahead of two other candidates.

Following his primary victory, Chapagain will represent the Democratic Party in the November general election, where he will compete against Republican candidates.

His campaign is centered on the priorities of “Affordable Maryland, Safe Communities, and Strong Businesses.” He has pledged to address the rising cost of living, improve public safety, and strengthen local businesses across the district.

Chapagain currently serves as an elected Central Committee Member of the Maryland Democratic Party, reflecting his active involvement in local politics. Beyond politics, he is engaged in the social, educational, and business sectors.

A small business owner, Chapagain also works as an interpreter for Baltimore County Public Schools and has held leadership positions in several community and social organizations. He says he has consistently advocated for public participation, social justice, and policies that prioritize working-class families and vulnerable communities.

In addition to his political and community work, Chapagain is also active in the literary field. He is recognized as an editor, poet, and lyricist. He previously served two terms as the Media Coordinator of NRNA America and currently serves as an advisor to the organization.

Chapagain’s victory is being viewed as another milestone for the growing participation of Nepali-origin citizens in American politics. Supporters believe his candidacy will not only advance his own political career but also strengthen the representation and voice of the Nepali community in the United States.
