Kathmandu – India has described Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s two-day visit to Nepal as productive and fruitful.

Invited by Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Misri visited Kathmandu on Sunday and Monday, where he held high-level meetings and courtesy calls before returning to New Delhi.

During his visit, Misri met with President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, among other leaders.

On behalf of the Indian leadership, he extended best wishes to Nepal’s leadership and shared updates on progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation.

Misri also handed over an official invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Prime Minister Oli for a visit to India.

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, both sides held detailed discussions on various aspects of Nepal–India relations and expressed satisfaction over progress made in physical and digital infrastructure, energy, defense, and security cooperation.

He also met Chief of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, and handed over defense materials and equipment including Light Strike Vehicles (LSVs), critical care medical equipment, and military animals to the Nepali Army.

During various meetings, both sides expressed satisfaction with the tangible progress made in recent years in areas such as physical and digital connectivity, defense and security, and energy cooperation.

Under its “Neighborhood First” policy, Nepal remains a key partner in India’s priorities. India believes that the Foreign Secretary’s visit not only continued the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries but also helped further strengthen bilateral ties.
