Kathmandu- The first edition of the Indian Ambassador’s Cricket Tournament, organized by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, concluded successfully at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground. The tournament began on Jestha 17 (May 30) and featured enthusiastic participation from teams representing the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, the British Embassy, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, corporate houses, and members of the Indian diaspora in Nepal.

The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of the Ambassador of India to Nepal, the British Ambassador, and the Joint Secretary of the South Asia Division at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament concluded with an exciting final match.

In the final game, the Indian Embassy team competed against the Indian diaspora team. The trophy distribution ceremony took place in the presence of Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, CAN (Cricket Association of Nepal) President Chatur Bahadur Chand, and Joint Secretary of the South Asia Division, Gehendra Rajbhandari. Players who performed exceptionally during the tournament were also honored during the event.

A reception was held in the evening to celebrate the success of the tournament. The event was graced by Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, ambassadors, the CAN president, and distinguished members of Nepal’s national women’s cricket team, along with players from all six participating teams, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

On the occasion, the Indian Ambassador also presented cricket kits to three promising U-19 Nepali cricketers. Additionally, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu announced the launch of the “Ambassador’s Cricket Fellowship for Nepali Youth.”

Under this fellowship, two young Nepali cricketers will be given the opportunity to receive short-term coaching at reputed cricket academies in India, further strengthening sports exchange and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
