Kathmandu – A newly constructed school building for Shree Mahendra Secondary School, located in Safebagar Municipality of Achham District, was officially handed over to the school management on Saturday. The building was constructed with financial assistance of NPR 32.4 million (approx. 3.24 crore) from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal–India Development Cooperation’ program.
The building was jointly handed over by Lalit Bahadur Kunwar, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Achham; Rajendra Bahadur Kunwar, Mayor of Safebagar Municipality; and Suman Shekhar, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, teachers, students, and their guardians.
The Indian government’s grant assistance was used to construct a well-equipped school building that includes classrooms, laboratories, a computer room, staff rooms, an administrative section, a principal’s office, a library, an accounts section, and separate toilets for boys and girls. The grant was also utilized for the procurement of furniture and computers. The project was classified as a High-Impact Community Development Project and implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Achham.
Established in 1960 as a secondary school, Shree Mahendra Secondary School was later upgraded to a higher secondary level. The school currently offers education from nursery to grade 12 and has over 400 students, of which 65% are girls.
Representatives from the District Coordination Committee, Safebagar Municipality, school management, and other stakeholders expressed their appreciation for India’s developmental support to the people of Nepal. They expressed confidence that the new infrastructure would enhance educational facilities for students at Shree Mahendra Secondary School in Achham.
