Kathmandu- The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has launched a two-month national awareness campaign aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty, protecting democracy and citizens’ rights, addressing public concerns, and strengthening the party’s organization.

The campaign was inaugurated on Saturday at the party’s central office in Paris Danda by party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, and co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Announcing the campaign, the party said it would focus on national political issues and organizational reforms, including membership renewal, organizational integration, and strengthening the party structure from the grassroots level.

In an appeal urging party members and the public to participate, NCP coordinator Prachanda said the country must remain alert to challenges related to national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and geopolitical manoeuvring.

Prachanda also accused the government, which he said was formed on the foundation of movements for freedom of expression, of displaying intolerance toward dissenting opinions. He alleged that restrictions on citizens’ freedom to speak and question, interference in the private sector and civil rights, and the creation of an atmosphere of fear and intimidation were becoming concerns.

He said the party would honestly review its past actions, acknowledge its mistakes and weaknesses, and move forward by strengthening public trust and confidence.

During the campaign, the party plans to collect concerns and grievances faced by citizens and present them to the relevant authorities at the local, provincial, and federal levels. It will also submit demands and memorandums where necessary and continue initiatives to seek solutions.

Prachanda stressed the need for broad national unity to protect Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the people’s right to make independent decisions.

He also made it clear that there was no immediate possibility of a party merger with the CPN-UML. However, he said the NCP would not hesitate to cooperate with like-minded political forces if the country faced a crisis, national independence came under threat, or democratic rights were endangered.

The party also plans to renew and update memberships, complete organizational integration and division of responsibilities, and resolve pending party-unification issues down to the grassroots level as part of its internal reform efforts.

Prachanda said the national awareness campaign would conclude on December 11, corresponding to Mangsir 25 in the Nepali calendar.
