Kathmandu- President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI),chandri raj dhakal ,led a high-level delegation to Xi’an, China, focusing on strengthening cooperation between South Asia and China in the herbal medicine and traditional healthcare sector.
During the visit, the delegation held strategic discussions with Chinese herbal industry stakeholders on expanding collaboration in herbal cultivation, processing, research, innovation, technology transfer, and market development. The discussions emphasized building partnerships that promote sustainable economic growth and highlight the traditional medicine heritage of the SAARC region.
The delegation was hosted by Ms. Sun Shen, Vice Chairperson of Caozien Company, who facilitated meetings and guided visits to herbal processing facilities and medicinal herb farming areas. The delegation observed advanced cultivation techniques, quality assurance systems, and sustainable production practices adopted by the company.
SAARC Chamber Secretary General julfikar batta also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significant potential for cooperation between SAARC countries and China in the herbal and natural medicine sector. He stressed the importance of institutional partnerships, joint research, capacity building, technology transfer, and trade facilitation to strengthen regional value chains and create opportunities for businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
The event was attended by several distinguished Chinese dignitaries and experts, including Prof. Ma Zhi Guo, Professor of Law at Xi’an Jiaotong University and Director of the Xi’an Intellectual Property Research Institute; Mr. Song Shaopu, Party Secretary of Tangyu Town, Lantian County, Xi’an; Mr. Wang Baoguo, Director of the Xi’an Tax Inspection Bureau; Mr. He Junfeng, a war correspondent and scholar; Mr. Chen Yan, President of Shenzhen and Hong Kong-listed companies; and Mr. Zheng Hong, Chairman of Xi’an Dao Tong Taibai Seven Medicine Research Co., Ltd.
Their participation added significant value to discussions on herbal medicine cooperation, innovation, intellectual property protection, investment, and sustainable development.
The delegation concluded the visit with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration, promote investment, encourage knowledge exchange, and explore joint initiatives benefiting both China and the SAARC region.
President Dhakal expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Chinese hosts and reaffirmed SCCI’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships for regional prosperity and growth.
The visit marks an important step in strengthening economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between South Asia and China, while opening new opportunities in the rapidly growing herbal and natural medicine sector.
