Kathmandu — Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. Vijay Jolly has claimed that over 81% of Nepalis want Nepal to be reinstated as a Hindu nation.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday during his four-day visit to Nepal, Jolly stated that he observed a deep emotional connection among the Nepali people regarding the idea of a Hindu nation.
“If 81.2% of Nepal’s Hindu citizens wish for Nepal to become a Hindu nation again, I am ready to support that sentiment,” he said.
He also recalled former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s 2021 remarks in Chitwan, where Oli claimed that Lord Ram was born in Nepal. Jolly mentioned that Oli’s words on Ram temple construction still resonate strongly in his memory. “Nepal and India share deep cultural and spiritual values,” he added.
Jolly further pointed out that even Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has previously expressed support for the idea of a Hindu nation. He emphasized that Nepal’s democracy would grow stronger if it aligns with the sentiments of its people.
He urged Nepal’s political parties to reconsider the issue, suggesting that respecting the religious identity of the majority could strengthen the democratic fabric of the country.
