SAFF U-15 women football team leaves for Bhutan

Kathmandu – A 32-member women’s football team left here today for Bhutan to play in the Second U-15 SAFF Championship Women Football. The team comprises 23 players, three coaches, five officials and one sports journalist. Nepal is placed in Group B of the Championship which kicks off on August 9 and concludes on August 18. Along with Nepal, the defending champion Bangladesh and Pakistan are also in Group B. India, the host country Bhutan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group A. This is the second edition of the tournament. Maldives is not participating in the championship. The players include Preeti Rai (captain), Sabitri Kisan (goal-keeper), Pooja Thapa, Karina Dhimal, Khusbu Rai (defender), Pushpa Gurung, Surakshya Singh, Sarishma Thapa Magar, Saloni Rana Magar, Sarita Neupane, Sabina Chaudhari and Mana Maya Pariyar. Similarly, Sushma Tamang, Riya Banu, Manisha Bista, Sabita Ranamagar, Poonam Ghimire, Asmita Chaudhari, Saraswati Hamal are in the mid-field line-up while Rajani Thokar, Nikita Thokar, Chandra Bhandari and Anushka Sherpa are playing as forwards. Chief coach Ganga Gurung, coach Shyam Manandhar and goalkeeper coach Binod Maharjan are also accompanying with the Nepali team. FIFA referee Asmita Manandhar and FIFA assistant referee Beena Shrestha is also going with the team to Bhutan to conduct the game. ‘Hike for Nepal-2018’ in UK

Kathmandu – Hiking was organized in Black Mountain at Wales in the United Kingdom to promote Nepal Tourism Year 2020. The programme entitled ‘Hike for Nepal-2018’ had put Nepal on spotlight for four hours in the city of the UK. ‘Let us take moves together for Nepal’ was set a slogan for the 12-km long march. The We Will Rise Foundation has been organizing such hiking event in Hong Kong every year. Following the declaration of Nepal government to mark 2020 as the tourism year, this is most probably the first-of-its-kind event held outside the country on the initiative of Nepali Diaspora. On the occasion, Nepali Ambassador for the UK, Durga Bahadur Subedi recalled that Sir George Everest who named Mount Everest to the world’s highest peak, Sagarmatha, was from the UK which has also deepened the bilateral relations between Nepal and UK. Such programme would not only enhance harmony, fraternity and cordial relations but also play catalytic role for tourism development of Nepal, he noted. Flood takes away bridge

Mistang – The swollen Kaligandaki River has taken away a bridge linking Kagbeni and Tiri. The flood triggered by incessant rain blew away the wooden bridge over the river at Baragung Muktichhetra rural municipality-4, Tirimindi on Monday. Muktichhetra rural municipality chair Fenchowk Chhepten Gurung shared that the bridge was constructed two years ago at the cost of Rs 1.3 million. With the removal of bridge, as many as 15 households of Tiri are in trouble. It has also affected the tourists coming to different trekking routes of Mustang. Shutdown affects life

Ilam – Normal life has been affected in nine eastern districts including Ilam due to shutdown. Rastriya Janamukti Party, Federal Limbuwan Party Nepal, Limbuwan National Revolutionary Party and Kochila Unity Front have enforced the shutdown. Issuing a press release, the Limbuwan Janata Party Nepal, Khambuwan Mukti Morcha Sanghiyabadi, Federal Khambuwan Loktantrik Party among others had expressed solidarity for the agitation. The shutdown has been enforced in protest of the failure of the constitution to empower ethnic groups, classes, gender and communities with the rights. Vehicular movement along Hetauda-Kulekhani road obstructed

Hetauda – Vehicular movement has been obstructed along Hetauda-Kulekhani road section from Monday night due to landslide occurred at Mahalaxmi cliff of Indrasarobar rural municipality-6 following incessant rainfall. Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, Asman Tamang, told Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that efforts are underway to remove the landslide debris and to resume vehicular movement towards Hetauda to Kathmandu. Similarly, landslip occurred at Sisneri cliff along Madan Bhandari highway at Indrasarobar rural municipality-3 has disrupted transport service towards Hetauda to Kathmandu from Monday night.
