Nawalparasi, Aug 12 (RSS): Two men were killed when a west-bound Bolero (Lu 1 Ta 9759) collided head on with a motorcycle (Lu 20 Pa 517) at Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-1 in eastern Nawalparasi along the East West Highway on Saturday. Call for naming Province 7 after martyr Dasharath Chand

Baitadi – Local people and political leaders have suggested naming Province 7 Dasharath Chand which goes after martyr Dasharath Chand. The proposal was made at the 24th anniversary of Martyr Dasharath Chand Memorial Trust in the district on Saturday that was attended by local people and various local political leaders. The suggestion responds to the parliamentary committee of the province seeking suggestion to determine name and permanent location for its capital. The committee extended the August 6 deadline by a week in this regard. The Trust also decided to urge Province Assembly members to translate their proposal into action. Addressing the function, President of the Trust Chatur Bahadur Chand viewed that the province be named Dasharath Chand in honour of martyr Dasharath Chand who had dreamt of establishing a democratic republic. Haphazard digging of roads poses risk of landslides, soil erosion in Myagdi

Myagdi – Haphazard digging of the roads in the district has posed risk of landslides and soil erosion. Many roads have been dug by using excavators and backhoe loaders without taking environmental and technical aspects into account, said district soil conservation officer Diwakar Poudel. “As a result, they will increase risk of landslides and soil erosion.” At least 2,100 houses have been at risk of landslides, soil erosion and flooding in the district that witnessed around 18 small and big landslides so far this year along, according to the District Soil Conservation Office. Rampant digging of roads is blamed in part to the natural disasters. The villages at risk of these natural disasters include Patlekhet, Torakhet, Pakhapani, Lamsung, Muna, Mudi, Shikha, Kuinemangale and Begkhola. Approximately 5 million cubic meters soil is swept away on a yearly basis by landslides and soil erosion, said the Soil Conservation Office. Moreover, the roads become muddy during monsoon obstructing the passage. “There is risk of landslips, soil erosion and the land caving in with the haphazard use of equipments like excavators. So road constructors should keep its risk in mind,” said Poudel. Three-member taskforce formed to investigate into Jumla clash

Surkhet, Aug 12 (RSS): A three-member taskforce has been formed to look into a clash erupted between the police and local people at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences in Jumla on July 19 when the police tried to airlift then protesting Dr Gobinda KC to Kathmandu.
