State-level public health lab office set up

State-5 Ministry of Social Development has set up a ‘State Public Health Lab’ at Ramnagar in Butwal. Opening the operation of laboratory on Thursday, Minister for Social Development Sudarshan Baral informed that the ministry has put health service on top priority. Ministry’s secretary Dr Gopi Krishna Khanal highlighted the need to develop strong collaboration among three tiers of governments to deliver health service in an integrated manner. Bangladeshi national arrested for killing friend

Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national, Dula Miya, on the charge of murdering his friend. Miya had been absconding after killing Mohamuddin Ahmad, proprietor of Sunray Travel ad Tours Pvt Ltd in Dhaka. Miya and Ahmad had arrived Kathmandu together on January 20. Chief at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, Senior Superintendent of Police Uttamraj Subedi, said Miya, who had been absconding after murdering Ahmad at room no 114 of Soltimod-based Hotel Grand Villa attacking with a liquor bottle, was arrested from Lahan on Wednesday night. The incident had occurred on January 20. Police said that absconding Miya was arrested while he was returning to Nepal again via Raxaul and Kakadvitta. Dhungana appointed NSU president

Rajiv Dhungana of Sunsari has been appointed the central president of Nepal Students Union (NSU), the sister organisation of the Nepali Congress. Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated him to the post and also constituted the NSU central ad-hoc working committee today. Deuba nominated Dhungana as per the decision of the party’s central working committee meeting on February 13, 2019. Dhungana had started student politics as the NSU district president in 1991. He has served as NSU central member, treasurer and vice-president before this. Similarly, Deuba has nominated Manoj Baidya of Kathmandu and Maheshwori Kunwar of Palpa as the general-secretary of the ad-hoc committee, chief secretary at the party office Krishna Prasad Poudel said. The Ad-hoc Committee has been assigned the responsibility of conducting the 12th central convention of NSU within six months from today. It is stated that the office-bearers and members on the Ad-hoc Committee cannot stand in the election to be held in the NSU’s forthcoming 12th general convention. Foreign Minister of Luxembourg meets PM Oli

Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn has paid a courtesy call on Prime minister KP Sharma Oli at latter’s official residence at Baluwatar this afternoon. During the meeting discussions were held on enhancing economic cooperation, including trade, investments, tourism and transfer of technology and continuing EU support to Nepal, said joint secretary Nirmal Raj Kafle.
