Kathmandu – During the inaugural session of the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission meeting, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar delivered a firm statement on India’s national security policy while addressing his Iranian counterpart. He emphasized that India’s recent cross-border strikes were a targeted and justified response to terrorist aggression.
“Your Excellency, you are visiting India at a time when we are responding to the brutal terrorist attack that occurred in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22,” said Jaishankar.
He added that India was compelled to carry out a precision strike on terrorist infrastructure across the border on May 7. “Our response was focused and purposeful. It was not intended to escalate the situation. However, let there be no doubt — if there is another military attack on India, our response will be even stronger.”
Jaishankar’s remarks have been interpreted as a clear and resolute articulation of India’s counterterrorism stance on an international diplomatic platform. Analysts say the statement reaffirms India’s unwavering position against cross-border terrorism and its readiness to act decisively in defense of its sovereignty.
