The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu-Nepal has organized a program on the occasion of the 8th Ayurveda Day on the possibility of further cooperation between India and Nepal in the field of traditional medicine, especially Ayurveda.

In the program, Director General of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Department of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Vasudev Upadhyay mentioned that Ayurveda is a recognized system of health care in Nepal. He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the Nepal government for the promotion of Ayurveda.

Prasanna Srivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy, discussed the cooperation between India and Nepal in the field of traditional medicine including Ayurveda. He also informed about various initiatives taken to promote cooperation in Ayurveda through exchange of knowledge, expertise and capacity building.

According to Deputy Chief Shrivastava, the celebrations to be celebrated on this year’s Ayurveda Day are in line with the slogan of the G-20 conference held under the chairmanship of India, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

Business Head of Dabur Nepal Harkiratsingh Vedi said that Dabur has developed a supply chain to collect herbs from Nepal as well as providing an opportunity for local communities to cultivate sustainable herbs. Dr. Shyam Babu Yadav, President of Nepal Ayurveda Physicians Association, expressed the opinion that Ayurveda medicine is a major part of Nepal. He also informed about its rich history in Nepal.

Ministry of Ayush, Government of India observes Ayurveda Day every year on Dhanawantari Jayanti (Dhanteras) since 2016. The 8th Ayurveda Day on 10 November 2023 is focused on the theme ‘Ayurveda for One Health – Ayurveda for every one on every day’. The Indian Embassy is committed to strengthening the relationship between India and Nepal through the promotion of Ayurveda, focusing on the spirit of One Earth for a Healthy Future.
