Birgunj : The Consulate General of India in Birganj has organized a special week for Mission Life in Birgunj. Consul General Nitesh Kumar stated that Mission Life Week was celebrated by arranging various programs throughout the week.

Under Mission Life, the Consulate organized a panel discussion on healthy lifestyles within its premises on June 20. In the discussion, Dr. Niraj Kumar Singh (MD, Int-Med) and Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Social Development, Madhes Province, Dr. Suchit Kumar Sharma, expressed their views on how people can modify their lifestyle for a healthy life.

On July 21, there was a discussion about the use of old electrical materials. Vijay Kushwaha, Director, NIIT, Birgunj informed the participants about the dangers of not managing e-waste properly and urged them to use electronic materials for a long time instead of replacing them as quickly as possible.

On July 24, Ranjit Kumar Singh and Jaiprakash Khaitan gave their views on the use of plastic. They said single-use plastic takes a long time to decompose.

On July 25, businessman Mahesh Agarwal, president of India Nepal Border Awareness Forum, explained about the benefits of healthy eating habits and the use of millet on the topic of Sustainable Food System. He also informed the participants about the method of cooking and the dangers of using a pressure cooker while reminding them that their ancestors prepared food according to the local conditions.

An orientation program on waste management was organized on July 26. Sarfuddin Mia, in-charge of sanitation branch of Birganj Metropolitan Municipality and Mahesh Aggarwal, President of India (Nepal Seema Jagran Manch) and businessman and social activist, emphasized on reducing waste to help keep the surrounding area clean, green and clean. They emphasized on the need to plant trees.

During the week, on July 27, Chartered Accountant Govind Gupta and Member of Nepal Engineers Association Priyanshu Gupta presented ideas on energy conservation, how energy use can be made economical and they also gave detailed information about renewable and non-renewable energy.

On the last day of the special week, there was an interaction on the issue of water conservation inside the consulate premises. Niran Maharjan, head of Nepal Water Supply Institute Birganj and Priyanka Rauniyar, Chartered Accountant, gave a graphic information about how wastage of water leads to water crisis. Besides suggesting ways to increase the water level, they also emphasized on the importance of rain water harvesting.

It is mentioned in the statement issued by the Consulate General of India, Birganj that seven sessions were conducted under Mission Life and about 100 civil society members of Birganj and officials and employees of the consulate participated in the discussions.
