Kathmandu – On the occasion of the 9th International Yoga Day, a public yoga program was held at Pokhara Stadium.

 

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu, in association with Pokhara Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board and Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal organised a public yoga at Rangshala in Pokhara to celebrate the 9th International Day of Yoga on Wednesday.

This year’s theme of International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘Yoga for the Welfare of All as One World-One Family’.

Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Civil Aviation and Tourism Mr Sudan Kirati, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gandaki Surinder Pandey, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Dhana Raj Acharya and over 2000 yoga enthusiasts from the region participated in the event.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Pandey thanked the Indian Embassy for choosing Pokhara to celebrate International Yoga Day. Chief Minister Pandey said that the whole world has accepted yoga as a means of mental peace, happiness and peace of mankind. Mentioning that philosophy, civilization and culture have defined India-Nepal relations for centuries, he said that the important religious areas in Pokhara can become a center for yoga practice.

Similarly, Minister Kiranti also said that yoga has been adopted by the world as a common asset for the welfare of mankind and it is becoming popular. He said that India-Nepal relations are also reaching new heights just like the mountains are rising every year.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava said that the embassy will cooperate with Gandaki Provincial Government, Ministry of Tourism and Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality to celebrate International Yoga Day in Pokhara every year on June 21 with grandeur.

He said that the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality has heard that most of the tourists who come to Pokhara are Indians.
