Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed the remittance service providing companies to make arrangements so that the remittance send by the Nepali citizens in abroad employment can be withdrawn easily in the situation of lockdown.

The central bank has also directed the remittance service providing companies to open their counter for paying the money remitted by Nepalis on foreign employment to their families. Lockdown has been imposed since Thursday in various places of the country including in Kathmandu Valley following the increased risk of coronavirus pandemic.

NRB stated in a press release today that the remittance service provider firms have been urged to make these arrangements in view of the difficulty faced by the families of those Nepalis who are in abroad employment as they cannot easily access the remittances due to the lockdown.

It also urged these companies to open their counter and provide the remittance-related financial services throughout the lockdown period by adopting all the health safety process with the presence of minimum number of staff by coordinating with local administration.

Likewise, the central bank has urged all to carry out the remittance fund transfer and foreign currency exchange in coordination with the bank and financial institutions as well as to make the transactions electronically as far as possible by fully keeping to the health safety protocol.
