INLS establishes National Poet Madhav Ghimire Award

The International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) has instituted the ‘National Poet Madhav Ghimire Award’. A meeting of the INLS Board of Trustees on August 19 decided to set up the award in the memory of national poet Ghimire. The award would be provided to the best poetry published in Nepali literature.
According to INLS treasurer Ram Lama ‘Avinashi’, the award carries a purse of two thousand US dollars. A directive and guideline for the award is being prepared. The award would be provided for the first time on the occasion of Mahakavi Devkota Birth Anniversary in 2021.
National poet laureate Ghimire passed away on Thursday at the age of 101 at his own residence in the capital. National Poet Ghimire has contributed a lot in Nepali literature. He had the craftsmanship mastery in composing beautiful poems in classical metrical pattern with the expressions of Nepal life, culture, civilization, humanity and nature.

Seven persons were killed and four others were injured in a road mishap at Sisne rural municipality-5 of Rukum (East) district today.  The deceased have been identified as Buddhiraj Pun, 31, Kumar Pun, 35, Kiran Pun, 22 of Putha Uttarganga rural municipality-1, Trisana Tulachan, 28, of Uttarganga rural municipality-12, Chhalana Barma, 30, of Uttarganga rural municipality-14, Arjun BK, 28, of Bhume rural municipality and Lalita Pariyar, 22, of Kohalpur, Banke.  According to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Prabinlal Shrestha, the accident took place when a jeep (Lu 1 Ja 2573) heading towards Lukumgadh from Rukumkot fell some 200 meters off the road.  Similarly, Jaybir Kami, 52, of Musikot municipality of Rukum (West), Pramila Budhamagar, 25, of Putha Uttarganga rural municipality-11, Dhaniram Pun, 27, of Maikot and Samjhana Punmagar, 27, were injured in the accident and they have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
