The Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the government to complete the under-construction Karnali corridor soon. The parliamentary committee’s meeting on Wednesday made this direction after taking stock of project progress from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Defence Ministry and the Nepal Army. The Committee members stressed the need for early completion of the project linking Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla to road network. The Committee’s chairperson Kalyani Kumari Khadka accused the Department of Roads for lacking a substantial study before starting the project. On the occasion, pointing out army’s help and cooperation with the Department of Roads in constructing roads, Lieutenant General Gaurab Tandul complained that difficulties involved in supplying construction materials (through Chinese routes) for the project as there is not road network linking to the construction site inside Nepal territory. “There is a difficulty to acquire permit to supply construction materials through Chinese routes,” he said. Director General of the Department of Roads Keshab Kumar Sharma said the project deadline is the coming July, and it may take coming October to complete it.
