Kathmandu- The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started removing the construction materials and the temporary structures from Khula Manch, the open-air-theatre in the heart of the city.

Temporary sheds had been built and construction materials kept at the open-air-theatre, in connection with the reconstruction of the Durbar High School, damaged by the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake and new building of the Bir Hospital.

The Durbar High School has been rebuilt and the construction of the Bir Hospital’s building has also reached the final stage of completion. So, KMC has started removing the temporary sheds and the construction materials from Khula Manch.

KMC spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol said the temporary structures and construction materials are being removed to clear the space for holding mass rallies and assemblies there after the streets started becoming the venues for holding such rallies and protest demonstrations thereby disturbing the traffic in recent days.

Save Heritage Campaign activists have been drawing the attention of KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya on the need of vacating the Khula Manch at the earliest. RSS
