The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has expressed severe concern over letting off those in the main responsibility in connection with the Lalita Niwas land scam. The HURPES said it was unfortunate to spare those in power despite filing corruption case against 175 persons including former Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). HURPES’ attention was drawn seriously towards Nepali Congress’ stand that filing case against its Vice Chairman Gachhadar was ill-intended and its decision to protest it by mobilizing sister organizations, HURPES Chairman Uttam Pudashaini stated in the press release. “The double standard maintained by the constitutional body CIAA in the Baluwatar land scam was quite regrettable,” Pudashaini added in the statement. It further said it was equally condemnable on the parts of both the ruling and the opposition parties to try to condone those accused of corruption.
