Newly elected Speaker to the House of Representatives (HoR), Agni Prasad Sapkota, has expressed the commitment that he would always do his best and remain responsible to maintain dignity of the people’s supreme institution by adopting democratic norms and values. Talking to the media persons after his election to the post, Sapkota said he would perform his impartial and balanced role. On the occasion, he thanked the Nepal Communist Party for making him candidate to the post and the Nepali Congress, Rastriya Janata Party and Federal Socialist Party, Nepal for their support. Asked about latest writ petition filed against Sapkota at the Supreme Court, the newly elected Speaker, however, did not make any comment in this regard. Sapkota would assume his office after taking oath from the President. NCP’s leader Sapkota was elected to the post unanimously from today’s meeting of the House of Representatives. The senior most member of the HoR, Mahantha Thakur, announced that Sapkota was elected to the post unopposed as per HoR Regulations-2075 as Sapkota was the lone candidate to the post.

Meanwhile, Sapkota is scheduled to take oath of office and secrecy on Monday morning. He would be sworn in at the Office of the President, it is said. As per the Constitution of Nepal, the President would administer oath to Speaker.
