Kathmandu – On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, a special yoga event was organized at Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, in collaboration between the Embassy of India in Nepal and the Lumbini Development Trust.
The event, held at Lumbini – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – was attended by the Chief of Lumbini Province, Mr. Krishna Bahadur Gharti, and the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Tej Lal Chaudhary, as chief guests. Both dignitaries expressed gratitude to the Indian Embassy for organizing such a special event at the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha and remarked that it has further strengthened the cultural ties between Nepal and India.
More than 500 yoga practitioners participated in the event, alongside senior officials from the Lumbini Development Trust.
India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, noted that although yoga originated in India, it has now become a global movement. He highlighted that yoga’s global impact has grown significantly after the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014. He remarked that celebrating Yoga Day at Lumbini – a symbol of peace, non-violence, and harmony – carries special significance.
Ambassador Srivastava also expressed his gratitude to the Lumbini Development Trust for their support in organizing the event and stated that such programs would help promote Lumbini as a global spiritual and religious destination.
The Lumbini event is part of a series of yoga programs organized by the Embassy of India in various cities across Nepal in celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga.
As part of this celebration, the Embassy has announced that a special yoga event will also be held tomorrow at the Pokhara Stadium in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City.
