Baitadi: Police have released Dinesh Bhatt, who was arrested on charge of raping and killing 17-year-old Bhagirathi Bhatt in Baitadi Gadakedar Gaonpalika-7.
Far-Western Province Police Chief DIG Uttamraj Subedi made the accused public at a press conference held at the District Police Office, Baitadi on Wednesday. Police arrested accused Dinesh Bhatt on Tuesday night. The accused was arrested two weeks after Bhagirathi was raped and murdered.
DIG Sujevi informed that Dinesh has been made public as he has already confessed to the crime. According to him, Dinesh Bhagarathi, who is studying at the local Sanatan Dharma High School, is his classmate and neighbor.
A police investigation has revealed that Dinesh, who had been his one-sided lover for a long time, was killed after being raped 13 days ago. The post-mortem report showed that she was strangled to death after being raped, police said.
According to police sources, he had initially given a statement that he had beaten Bhagarathi from a cliff and raped her while she was injured.
