Kathmandu, July 2 : National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to take initiative to protect the life of Ganga Maya Adhikari, who is staging a hunger strike.
The human rights watchdog body has also demanded investigation into the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari and legal action against the guilty.
Issuing a press statement on Monday, NHRC’s acting Secretary Yagya Prasad Adhikari asked the government to come up with effective and prompt measures for the protection of Adhikari’s life and dispensing justice to her.
The constitutional body also cautioned the government for its ignorance to bring measures for the same despite drawing government’s attention time and again in the past.
Health condition of Gangamaya has become very weak and complicated while staging hunger strike several times, he said.
A team of NHRC member Sudip Pathak had reached Bir Hospital today to enquire and monitor the health condition of Gangamaya.
Earlier, NHRC had recommended the Nepal government to take action against those involved in criminal incident and provide compensation to the victim family.
