Over 20 thousand metric tons of garbage was collected and managed from various places of the country today under the Bagmati River Cleanup Mega Campaign that kicked off on May 19, 2013 and other cleanliness campaigns launched at the local level thereafter.

Over 500,000 people participated in cleaning of various rivers and (local) areas. 

At the request of the Mega Campaign, the government has announced the year 2075 BS as the ‘National Cleanliness Year’. The government had issued the cleanliness declaration on the occasion of the 200th week of the commencement of the Bagmati River Mega Campaign.

A total of 39 metric tons of waste materials were collected from the Kathmandu-valley based rivers and ring road area and managed today. In the 264th week of the Mega Campaign today, the Thapathali area was cleaned with the management of five metric tons of waste.

Over 375 people from various organisations including High Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nyano Sparsha, Muktinath Development Bank and Reiyukai Nepal participated in the cleaning works, according to one of the participants, Mala Kharel.
