Swollen Kaligandaki sweeps away school, 24 households at risk

Myagdi – The flood-fed Kaligandaki River has blown away a school in Myagdi district this morning. The river changed the course and swept away the six-room Dhawalagiri Primary School at Kopchepani in Annapurna rural municipality-4, informed school management committee chairperson Durga Khadka. As many as 20 students are pursuing their education in the school. The area has witnessed torrential rains for the last couple of days. The Kaligandaki flood has gushed into the human settlement and is causing land erosion. Ward Chairperson Chandra Prakash Fagami said that the flood has put at risk the 24 households of the human settlement at Kopchepani along the trekking route leading to Mustang. “I had informed the rural municipality and district disaster management committee about the loss”, he said. Flood increases risks at Lastibazaar

Parbat – The rain-triggered flood in Lasti rivulet has posed serious threat to Lastibazaar where over 100 families are residing. Continuous erosion of land has put at risk the Lastibazaar – a border area of ward no. 7 and 8 of Jaljala rural municipality. A total of 25 families from both the wards have been replaced this time around, shared Jaljala Ward No. 8 Chairperson Hari Bikas GC. “Total 131 families living in wards 7 and 8 are reeling under vulnerable condition”, he further explained. In addition, the continuous erosion has increased risks at Maldhunga-Beni road linking Myagdi and Mustang. Earlier, flood and landslide occurred in the area on July 17 had killed one and injured three persons. It had also displaced families who now are taking shelter at relatives’ house. In this connection, Jaljala Ward No. 7 Chairperson Tunganath Acharya stressed the need of charting a sustainable plan for the protection of human settlement which is increasingly at risk due to floods and landslides. ANFA special AGM in Sauraha; focus on statute amendment

Sauraha (Chitwan) –  The special annual general meeting of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) kicks off in Sauraha of Chitwan today. The general assembly is to be zeroed in on amendment to its statute. Though the National Sports Council (NSC) has directed to remove the agenda of amendment from the list, the association is not likely to completely adhere to the directive. It may be noted that the NSC had directed the football association not to immediately take any decision on structural issue as the country is focused on formulating new laws following federal setups. Keeping in mind the NSC recommendation, the ANFA central committee meeting held on Tuesday evening had decided to put forth a draft of ANFA statute with amendment to the AGM, informed ANFA Spokesperson Kiran Rai. The association is all prepared to present short-term and long-term plans including formation of province ad hoc committee, voting rights of clubs, financial regulation and ANFA operational regulation. Province government concerns national pride projects

Butwal –  The province government has shown concern on the construction of national pride projects. At a discussion programme at chief minister’s office on Tuesday, Province-5 chief minister Shanker Pokharel enquired the project chiefs about the progress of national pride projects being implemented in the Province-5. Chief Minister Pokharel held the discussion on exploring measures to complete the projects in a timely manner. He obtained various information related to work progress, spending, remaining work and time required to complete the projects from the projects in-charge. Among the national pride projects operational in the province-5 include Gautam Buddha International Airport, Lumbini Master Plan, Babi Irrigation Project, Bheri Babai Diversion Project and Postal Highway. On the occasion, Project In-charge of Gautam Buddha Regional International Airport Om Sharma apprised the province government of works being carried out in a way to operate the airport within 10 months. Likewise, Lumbini Development Trust Project In-Charge Saroj Bhattarai shared that 80 per cdent of the works of the Lumbini master pan has been completed and progress is on to complete remaining works within coming five years. 16 injured in truck-bus collusion; , five critical

Tanahun –  At least 16 people injured in a bus-truck collusion this morning. The Kathmandu-bound bus (Na 4 Kha 5491) from Damauli and a truck (Na 6 Kha 3293) coming from opposite collided each other at Belbhanjyang in Byas municipality along the Prithvi Highway.
