Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to organize the Kathmandu Film Festival from Kartik 13 to 15, aiming to preserve Nepal’s cinematic heritage, honor veteran filmmakers, and transfer artistic knowledge and skills to the younger generation.

Announcing the event at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Metropolitan City said the festival would provide a platform to celebrate Nepal’s film history while promoting cultural exchange and opportunities for emerging artists.

According to the metropolis, renowned Indian actress Shabana Azmi and Marco Müller, a distinguished professor at the Film Academy of Shanghai and its Film Arts Research Centre, are among the prominent international figures expected to attend the festival.

As part of its efforts to preserve Nepal’s cinematic heritage, the festival will feature special screenings of two classic Nepali feature films from the 1970s and 1980s: Kumari and Ke Ghar Ke Dera. The screenings are intended to reconnect audiences with Nepal’s film history and highlight the cultural significance of classic Nepali cinema.

The festival also aims to create opportunities for local artists and film professionals to connect with the international film community. By bringing together established filmmakers, international experts, and emerging talents, the event seeks to encourage knowledge-sharing and strengthen Nepal’s presence in the global film industry.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City said the festival would serve as a platform to recognize the contributions of veteran artists while encouraging younger generations to learn from their experience and carry Nepal’s cinematic traditions forward.

The three-day event is expected to contribute to the promotion of Nepali cinema, the preservation of film heritage, and the development of stronger connections between local and international film professionals.
