Lalitpur- Construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge equipped with lifts in Kusunti, Lalitpur, has reached its final stage. Lalitpur Metropolitan City has set a target to complete the project within a month, provided there are no unexpected obstacles.

According to Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, the bridge is being constructed in response to repeated requests from local residents and the wider community to improve pedestrian safety. A total of 19 people have reportedly lost their lives in accidents while crossing the road along this stretch.

The new overhead bridge is designed to provide safer and more accessible road-crossing facilities for pedestrians. Stairs have been installed for people who can use them, while lifts on both sides of the bridge will provide access for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users, and others who have difficulty walking.

Mayor Maharjan said the estimated cost of the project is around NPR 52 million (Rs. 5.2 crore). The bridge is expected to make road crossing easier and safer for pedestrians, particularly senior citizens and people with mobility difficulties.

The metropolitan city hopes that the construction of this disability-friendly bridge will help reduce road accidents in the area. Once completed, the structure is expected to improve pedestrian access and provide a safer alternative to crossing the busy road directly.

The project reflects the city’s efforts to improve urban infrastructure by incorporating accessibility and pedestrian safety into public construction.

With construction nearing completion, residents of Kusunti are expected to benefit from a safer and more accessible road-crossing facility. The effectiveness of the project in reducing accidents will depend on proper use of the bridge and continued attention to pedestrian safety and traffic management in the area.
