“New Delhi – The Ministry of External Affairs of India has issued an official response to the remarks made by the Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the resumption of border trade between India and China through the Lipulekh Pass.
MEA Spokesperson Shri Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Government of India has carefully noted Nepal’s comments on the resumption of border trade through the Lipulekh Pass.
Reiterating that India’s position on the matter has remained consistent and clear, he noted that border trade through Lipulekh began in 1954 and has continued uninterrupted for decades.
On the issue of territorial claims, he said, “India’s position is clear — such claims are neither justified nor supported by historical facts and evidence. Any unilateral and artificial expansion of territorial claims is unacceptable.”
He further stated that India remains willing to engage positively with Nepal to resolve the remaining agreed boundary issues through dialogue and diplomatic channels.
This statement comes in the wake of recent developments concerning the Lipulekh region, which lies at the tri-junction of India, Nepal, and China, and has increasingly become a subject of diplomatic attention in recent years.
