New Delhi — A planned face-to-face meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former U.S. President Donald Trump was postponed due to Trump’s sudden return to the United States.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders held a telephonic conversation in lieu of the in-person meeting. The discussion was described as cordial and productive, covering bilateral relations, global peace, and strategic cooperation between the two nations.

India’s Foreign Secretary stated, “Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to democratic values, economic cooperation, and regional stability. Though the in-person meeting could not take place, the phone conversation reaffirmed the depth of the India–U.S. relationship.”
