Kathmandu – On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu organized a special event focused on the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The event was graced by the Honourable Minister of Forests and Environment of Nepal, Mr. Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, as the chief guest. He, along with the Ambassador of India to Nepal, H.E. Mr. Naveen Srivastava, participated in a ceremonial tree plantation within the Embassy premises. Students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu also enthusiastically joined in the plantation drive.

Various saplings were planted on the occasion, symbolizing not only the importance of greenery but also a shared message for environmental responsibility. Speakers at the event highlighted pressing issues such as climate change, plastic pollution, and the importance of environmental balance, stressing the need for collective efforts from all sectors of society.

Ambassador Srivastava emphasized that initiatives like these help strengthen the environmental cooperation between India and Nepal and foster a spirit of joint responsibility towards sustainable living. He also encouraged the students to become environmentally conscious citizens and future champions of green initiatives.

At the conclusion of the event, the Embassy distributed educational materials related to environmental awareness to the participating students. The program was seen as an important step toward instilling environmental responsibility in the younger generation.

Through this initiative, the Embassy of India reaffirmed its commitment to green initiatives and community collaboration in promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment.
