Kathmandu – Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the Federal Parliament is to expedite the activities to control the incidents of gender based violence, criminal activities like rape that have increased in the country of late.
Likewise, the committee shall carry out the monitoring and protection of children and senior citizens’ rights effectively.
A meeting of the Committee held at Singh Durbar today drew the conclusion that the Committee would play active role in making the activities related to rights of women, children and senior citizens and social welfare council transparent and effective.
Saying different incidents like rape, murder and violence against women have increased in the country in recent period, Committee President Nirudevi Pal said that the Committee would take special initiative to minimize such incidents and take legal action against the guilty.
The Committee further said that it would drew attention of all bodies concerned for effective mobilization to minimize incidents of violence against women and would launch awareness campaign across the country coordinating with Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen.
On the occasion, Committee members including Parbat Gurung, Ganesh Thagunna, Laxmi Pariyar, Hira Gurung, Amrita Thapa Magar, Khem Prasad Lohani and Kumari Meche stressed that the Committee should monitor the activities of different commissions systematic and effective.
The members further said that the Committee should regulate and interfere the activities of NGOs in order to operate NGOs activities through one-door system.
The meeting also formed a sub-committee to formulate working procedure and regulations of the Committee. Amrita Thapa Magar, Laxmi Pariyar, Ganesh Thagunna, Rani Mandal, Bimala Nepal, Bimala Bishwokarma and Durga Raut are in the sub-committee. (RSS)
