Kathmandu, May 15 (RSS): Finance Minister Dr Yubraj Khatiwada has called for reaching insurance education to every nook and corner of the country, as part of financial literacy.

Speaking at a programme organized to mark the 50th anniversary of Beema Samiti here in the capital today, he stressed on expanding the access to insurance education. He also said that the Beema Samiti should develop the insurance sector so as to reach it to every sector.

He added that only 10 per cent people had insurance coverage contributing only two percent to the GDP. This is not satisfactory.

Similarly, Rastra Bank Governor Dr Chiranjibi Nepal noted that all should adopt the financial activities for national prosperity after lessening the risk that might surface in life and profession.

He also opined for extending insurance in rural areas. Similarly, Samiti chair Chiranjibi Chapagain shared that it was extended to an additional three percentage people in a single year due to its effective policy reform.

There are 18 life insurance, 19 non-life insurance and one re-insurance companies operating in the country.
