Following the detection of the outbreak on Asar 5 , the WHO–IPD team reached the affected area to study the nature of the illness and collected throat swabs and blood samples from infected individuals. As the infection primarily affected children, Kedar Secondary School in Kathmada, Surnaya, was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

According to Mahara, Head of the Health Section, measures were taken to prevent further spread of the infection, including placing infected individuals in isolation and promoting personal and environmental hygiene. The rural municipality also urged all residents to remain cautious and adopt preventive measures.

With coordination between the Baitadi District Health Office, WHO–IPD team and the rural municipality, a series of public health interventions were launched. On Asar 6 (June 20), discussions were held among the Vice Chairperson, Chief Administrative Officer, and heads of the health and education departments to develop a coordinated response strategy.

Within 72 hours, the WHO–IPD team and the District Health Office accomplished the following key actions:

– Outbreak Investigation: The WHO–IPD team reached the field for outbreak surveillance and assessment after noticing a rise in cases.

– Sample Collection: Throat swabs and blood samples were collected from suspected patients and sent to a laboratory for testing.

– Orientation for Local Leaders and Health Workers: Awareness sessions were held with the Vice Chairperson, Chief Administrative Officer, and local health and education officials about measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

– Community Awareness: The team conducted awareness sessions in schools, engaging students, teachers, and local Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) to inform them about prevention and control measures.

– Vitamin A Supplementation: Infected children were provided with Vitamin A supplements to support recovery and prevent complications.

The WHO–IPD team played a vital role in delivering an effective and rapid response, making a significant contribution to local public health efforts.

The Baitadi District Health Office has committed to ongoing surveillance and the provision of necessary healthcare services in the affected areas.

The event, held at Lumbini – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – was attended by the Chief of Lumbini Province, Mr. Krishna Bahadur Gharti, and the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Tej Lal Chaudhary, as chief guests. Both dignitaries expressed gratitude to the Indian Embassy for organizing such a special event at the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha and remarked that it has further strengthened the cultural ties between Nepal and India.

More than 500 yoga practitioners participated in the event, alongside senior officials from the Lumbini Development Trust.

India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, noted that although yoga originated in India, it has now become a global movement. He highlighted that yoga’s global impact has grown significantly after the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014. He remarked that celebrating Yoga Day at Lumbini – a symbol of peace, non-violence, and harmony – carries special significance.

Ambassador Srivastava also expressed his gratitude to the Lumbini Development Trust for their support in organizing the event and stated that such programs would help promote Lumbini as a global spiritual and religious destination.

The Lumbini event is part of a series of yoga programs organized by the Embassy of India in various cities across Nepal in celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga.

As part of this celebration, the Embassy has announced that a special yoga event will also be held tomorrow at the Pokhara Stadium in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City.

The vehicle handover ceremony was organized simultaneously at four locations: the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the Indian Consulate General in Birgunj, and the Indian Embassies’ Pension Payment Offices in Pokhara and Dharan.

A total of 40 ambulances were donated across all seven provinces of Nepal, covering 33 districts. Out of these, 22 ambulances were handed over in Kathmandu. Additionally, 7 ambulances were provided in Birgunj, 7 in Pokhara, and 4 in Dharan by Indian government representatives.

At the ceremony held in Kathmandu, Shri Prashant Srivastava, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy, handed over the keys to the vehicles. Mayors and chairpersons of municipalities and rural municipalities from various districts in the Bagmati, Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces were present at the event, along with representatives from beneficiary institutions, political representatives, and social workers.

In his address, the Deputy Chief of Mission highlighted that the ambulances donated under the Nepal-India development partnership are part of India’s long-standing efforts to strengthen health infrastructure in Nepal. He emphasized that this initiative is a vital aspect of the strong and vibrant development partnership between India and Nepal, which has expanded and deepened over the past seven decades.

During interactions with the beneficiaries, they expressed gratitude for India’s support in various development projects in their districts and across Nepal. They also expressed confidence that the newly gifted ambulances would help improve access to healthcare services in their respective areas. Similar sentiments were echoed by the beneficiaries from Birgunj, Pokhara, and Dharan.

The Indian government has prioritized Nepal’s health sector and has been providing ambulances as gifts to various beneficiary institutions across Nepal for over three decades. Since 1994, the Indian government has donated a total of 1,049 ambulances to Nepal. On other occasions, similar logistical support in the form of vehicles has also been provided to the Nepalese government.

To date, 300 school buses have been gifted to various educational institutions in Nepal. In 2022, the Indian government donated 200 vehicles to Nepal’s electoral bodies and the Election Commission to assist with the conduct of elections. Recently, in May 2025, 15 electric vehicles were presented to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the smooth organization of the first edition of the Sagarmatha Dialogue.

The India-Nepal bilateral relationship is marked by a multifaceted and multi-sectoral development partnership that reflects the deepening ties between the two nations. The expansion of such arrangements continues to reinforce the Indian government’s ongoing commitment to Nepal’s development and further strengthens the bond between the people of both countries.

These include the 33% women’s reservation in Parliament, 10 crore LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme, the Lakhpati Didi scheme, maternity leave extended from 12 to 26 weeks with salary, ₹18,593 crore assistance for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, 4.2 crore accounts for women under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, 73% of houses under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme being in women’s names, 68% of accounts under the Prime Minister’s Mudra Scheme in women’s names, 74% of the beneficiaries under the Stand-Up India Scheme being women entrepreneurs, and permanent commissions for women in the Armed Forces, among others.

The event began with a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the souls of the passengers who tragically lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash.

The tournament began on Jestha 17 (May 30) and featured enthusiastic participation from teams representing the Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, the British Embassy, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, corporate houses, and members of the Indian diaspora in Nepal.

The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of the Ambassador of India to Nepal, the British Ambassador, and the Joint Secretary of the South Asia Division at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament concluded with an exciting final match.

In the final game, the Indian Embassy team competed against the Indian diaspora team. The ceremony was jointly conducted by Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Tashi Nhrbu Gurung, Chairperson of Lo Manthang Rural Municipality.

Under the India–Nepal Development Cooperation framework, the project is being constructed with a financial grant of NPR 37.6 million (Rs. 3.76 crore) from the Government of India. The funding will support the construction of a hostel building, a dining hall, kitchen facilities, toilets, bathrooms, rest rooms, and other related infrastructure.

This initiative is being implemented as part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and is executed through the Lo Manthang Rural Municipality. The school is the only higher secondary institution in Upper Mustang.

The school serves students from Lo-Ghekar Damodar Kunda and Lo Manthang rural municipalities and aims to provide quality education through experienced and inspiring teachers.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by local political representatives, government officials, social workers, teachers, students, and their parents, marking a significant step forward in educational development for the region.
