Kathmandu- National Food Laboratory has been inaugurated in Raxaul, Bihar. In the presence of Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Mahindra Rai Yadav, Indian Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandavia inaugurated the laboratory.

The National Food Laboratory at Raxaul, established by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with advanced facilities and infrastructure for testing food samples entering India. The laboratory will help increase bilateral trade between India and Nepal by saving time on sampling of Nepal’s food and agricultural exports. At present, these samples have to be sent to Delhi or Kolkata for testing.

Nepali traders have been requesting for the construction of an upgraded food laboratory in Raxaul for a long time and now it has been completed. The construction of this food laboratory is another reflection of India’s commitment to improving connectivity, trade and border infrastructure with Nepal in line with the “Neighbor First” policy.
