Kathmandu- The Liaison (India-Nepal Alumni Network) in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center under the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu organized a roundtable discussion on the occasion of International Women’s Day at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu.

Senior political leaders of Nepal Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav, Former Chief Minister of Bagmati Pradesh Ashtalakshmi Shakya, MPs Dr. Binda Pandey and Pushpa Bhushal participated in the discussion on “Women’s Political Participation: Challenges and Ways of Solutions”. Professor Ila Sharma was the facilitator of the discussion.

Speakers of the discussion mentioned that women have played an important role in the political arena and discussed the efforts to be made to highlight women’s rights.

Speakers of the discussion stressed on the need to implement the legal provisions related to women to further expand and ensure the representation and participation of women in the field of policy making as there is a need for women leadership at present.
