On the occasion of 10 years of successful research grant program, CREEW organized a grant alumni meet on 21 December, 2019 at Hotel Shangri-La, Kathmandu. In the event past and present grantees shared their views on how ‘CREEW Research Grant Program’ helped them in their early academic/research career stage.

CREEW Research Grant Program is one of the annual periodic program of CREEW since its inception in 2008. The program aims to facilitate academic research for post graduate students in the field of civil engineering, environmental engineering, geo-technical engineering, environmental science, hydrology, meteorology, agriculture, forestry, botany and other relevant fields by providing academic research grants, research suggestions/advises.

Apart for this, CREEW encourages its grant awardees to publish their research in international/national journals and provides platforms to present their research outputs in international/ notational conferences and symposium. From 2008 to 2019 a total of 86 post-graduate scholars from various universities and academic institution have been directly benefited from CREEW Research grant program. Here are some facts and figures of research grant programs.

In addition, a separate technical session was held on the topic ‘From Research to Innovation to Enterprise’, where distinguished speakers shared their knowledge, ideas, and experiences on linking research to entrepreneurship. Dr. Madan Lal Shrestha, the former Director General of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology shared his experience on institutionalizing environment and climate on the mainstream. Dr. Shrestha is presently an academician in NAST and focal person to Nepal on Asia Pacific Network on Global change research. Similarly, Hon. Dr. Bishnu Prasad Gautam highlighted on Science, technology & innovation for prosperity. He specifically stressed on the need of the time to get out of the box to see the micro and macro level of environmental issues and its balanced solutions. Dr. Gautam is the member of Province Planning Commission of Province number-5. Furthermore, Mr. Rupesh Krishna Shrestha addressed the mass of young researcher on the translating research into an enterprise: putting text-into-context. He mentioned the need of breaking the stereotype of choosing only white collar job or flying abroad in the way of career path. Mr. Shrestha is co-founder of Idea Studio Nepal. In addition, Ms. Sajal Pradhan shared her experiences on opportunities & challenges while choosing enterprise as potential career path. Ms. Pradhan is young entrepreneur in the field of water.

The program was followed by ‘the 11th CREEW Research Grant Program’ proposal presentation in the later half. CREEW Research grantees of the year 2019-2020, presented their research proposal to the expert panel and received comments and suggestions. Only 10 post-graduate scholars among several applicants were selected for the 11th CREEW Research Grant Program. The research area of the grantees covers vast areas: rom Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) to solid waste management and pesticide practices.
