Jajarkot – More than four thousand people in Nalgad Municipality in Jajarkot district are compelled to live in darkness after the flood and landslide swept away the canal supplying water to the reservoir of the local hydroelectricity project.

The flood in Jhurme Khola flowing through the ward no 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Nalagaad Municipality on August 14 swept away some 200-300 metres of cemented canal disrupting the power generation and its supply by the microhydro power projects in the locality.

The flood caused damages to as many as six local micro hydropower projects such as 15-kilowatt Silipalauna Syala Dharmashala micro hydro, 45-kilowatts Baagmare micro hydro power project, 15-kilowatts Khumara Khola microhydro power project and 13-kilowatt Lahare micro hydropower project among others, informed ward no 4 Chairperson, Prachanda Oli.
The flood also had damaged the irrigation canals and embankments besides the canals of six micro hydropower projects.
Nalgad Municipality Mayor Tek Bahadur Rawal shared that around 4,000 locals in Ghuwara, Pipalchaur, Khantakura, Thapla, Kalimati Bazar and Dalli among others were deprived of electricity following the damage to the canals.

The performance of the local government offices, financial institutions and schools has been affected in absence of electricity. The landslide and flood damaged as many as 82 houses in the district, said Chief District Officer, Lalit Kumar Basnet. (RSS)
